For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.Study notes
The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Explanation
Paul has been using the picture of slavery: people are slaves either to sin or to God (6:16-22). Sin pays a wage, and that wage is death. Eternal life is not earned; it is God's free gift.
