Psalm 30:5

For His anger is fleeting, but His favor lasts a lifetime. Weeping may stay the night, but joy comes in the morning.

Study notes

God's anger lasts a moment but His favour a lifetime; weeping may last the night, but joy comes in the morning.

Explanation

The psalmist has come through a time of trouble (30:1-3). He compares God's anger to a short moment and His favour to a whole life. Sorrow is pictured as a guest who stays only for the night, followed by joy at dawn.
